To draw more attention to your ads on social media, try using square and vertical videos! Square videos have been shown to attract more clicks and better engagement.

Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter all recommend using square videos to fill the screen completely while your audience views your video. This is part of the reason Facebook specifically recommends 1:1 aspect ratios (square video) for video ads on both Instagram and Facebook.

Regardless of how you are viewing your screen, you may notice that square videos take up a prominent amount of screen space. This is also true for the user's feed as well and the videos stand out even more. Now you can create square or vertical Promo videos using our new format.

You can make a square or vertical one of two ways. You can start from the search results page or switch your format from inside the editor.

To start from the search results, simply click the "Preview" button on the specific clip you want to use:

At the top of the preview window, you'll see a  bar with landscape, square, and vertical options:

Choose your format and use your mouse to re-position the footage perfectly. Then click "Use" to customize the video in the editor.

In this example, we have selected the square format and can adjust the portion of the video that you want to show.

My selected square video will now be available for me to enter the text within the format that I have customized. You can then click "Preview" to see your video.

You can also change the format of the video by clicking on "Video" from inside of the editor.

After clicking "Video," you can now select the landscape, vertical, or square options to view your video and complete any changes.

Please note: when you change your footage from inside of the editor, you will have to re-edit your text to suit the new dimensions of the video format you choose. This means adjusting both the font size and the text position.

Vertical videos are optimized for the following cases:

  • Website videos:  Vertical videos work best for marketing on your website.
  • Projected videos: When you’re planning to show a video to an audience by projecting it on a screen or TV screen, vertical videos works best.
  • YouTube:  YouTube videos will look best in landscape.
